The Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve Secretariat
The Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve Secretariat has been established by a sub-decree under the Cambodia National Mekong Committee to facilitate coordination and strengthen the communication and cooperation among relevant agencies, provincial authorities, civil society in the protection and sustainable management of the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve within the geographical boundary and mandate designated.
The Secretariat for the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve has the following functions:
- Development of Strategy and Mechanism to achieve the functions of the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve;
- Coordination of the establishment of an integrated database management system and data exchange mechanism among agencies;
- Monitoring, evaluation, and review the status of the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve within 4 to 10 years period;
- Coordination of the review of the existing laws and regulations;
- Establish a network with local authorities, civil society, relevant agencies, international organizations, non-governmental organizations;
- Organization of meetings and forums to discuss issues related to the management of Tonle Sap Lake;
- Coordination with relevant ministries, agencies and organizations for the preparation of project plans for financial assistance from the government and international donors;
